Before you start

Not your own class or your own team. Swap if it is.
Stand where you cannot see screens. Sit at the front, facing away.
Know the opt-out route and how someone takes it without an audience.

Say this at the start

“This is not a test. There are no right answers and nothing is attached to your name.

The school wants to know where it actually stands, so answer how things really are — not how they’re supposed to be. If the honest answer makes the school look bad, that’s the answer we need.

It’s anonymous. I won’t look at your screen.

If you’d rather not take part, that’s fine — [route]. You don’t have to say why.

If you don’t know, choose ‘I don’t know’. That’s a real answer.

If anything here brings something up you want to talk about, tell me and I’ll put you in touch with [DSL].”

When someone asks “what does this mean?”

You may

Re-read it exactly as written
Define a plain everyday word
Explain the mechanics (scroll, skip, change)
Remind them “I don’t know” is allowed

You may not

Give an example
Rephrase it “more simply”
Say what the school does or what the policy is
Signal a good answer — including by tone or face

“I can’t explain that one further — it’s meant to be answered from your own understanding. Answer it how it reads to you, or choose ‘I don’t know’.”

Never say “just guess”

“I don’t know” is excluded from scoring, not counted as a low score. A guess enters the data as if it were knowledge.
Some items are reversed on purpose. Rephrasing can flip the meaning without anyone noticing.

If someone discloses something

Let them finish. Do not ask questions and do not ask who did it.
Do not promise secrecy. “I’m glad you told me. I have to pass this to [DSL] because that’s how we keep you safe.”
Walk them to the DSL now, not at the end.
Write down their words as soon as you can. What was said, not what you concluded.
In a free-text box and anonymous? Flag to the DSL same day. Do not try to work out who.

Always allowed

Read it aloud as written · extra time · breaks · quiet room · usual access arrangements
Never translate on the fly — that creates a different instrument.

Tell the coordinator afterwards

Group + roughly how many took part
Anything that could have affected honesty (interruption, visible screens, device failure)
Any disclosure, and that the DSL has it
Any question asked by three or more people — the item is probably unclear
